The Schuyler County Food Room

Our most important and most visible ministry is the monthly food distribution for Schuyler County residents in need. We have been distributing food since December, 2005 and now serve more than 550 people monthly which reaches more than fifty percent of the potential need. We have approximately sixty volunteers we may use to help in the food distribution each month. The total time spent on this ministry exceeds 375 hours per distribution period. The hours devoted to this operation include the six days of ordering from available choices prior to delivery, accepting delivery of the food, inventorying the incoming food, calling and organizing the volunteer labor, developing a plan to evenly divide the food into individual orders, boxing the food into individual orders, meeting and greeting the persons needing the food on distribution days, keeping records of all necessary and required data for each person and family served, loading all boxes and items to vehicles, boxing additional orders to satisfy the total needs for each distribution time, cleaning the site, and completing and sending of all required forms and records to agencies requiring them.
